I'm getting a new car and we are getting the scrapage allownace from my husbands old car against it but to do this it has to be registered in his name. Can I get the insurance for the new car in my name without be being the registered keeper? Hubby already has his own and policy.

Most insurance companies recognise property in common between married couples and will insure the vehicle as if it were registered in your name.
As with anything to do with insurance I would advise you to speak to your insurer, explain that the vehicle is registered in your husbands name but is yours 95% of them will be quite happy - there is always the odd exception which is why I recommend the call.

As per Woozer, we generally don't worry about the car being registered to one spouse, but insured by the other. As a general rule, the premium is based o nthe jigher risk driver in any case.

So if you insure the car but have no claims or convictions, but your husband (as a named driver) has drink driving convictions or claims, then the premium will be based on him.

It is advisable to let the insurer know that the car is registered to your husband though, but it shouldn't make any difference
