how do i respond to negative feedback on ebay

some cheeky **** put a negative feedback on my ebay even though i was in the right.  i put a feedback on his first to say 'no payment' and he replied.  i want to respond to his on my summary so people know what happened.

it will not allow me to respond as there does not seem to be a icon to respond against it.

I take it you did give the buyer an adequate amount of time to pay?

According to Ebay's own help pages, which you may have looked at already, you .......

You can respond to any feedback you receive, whether it's positive, neutral, or negative.

Just click on the Respond link next to the correct user and item number, and enter your response. You can respond once to each feedback comment you receive.

As you say there's no icon showing, I wonder if your opportunity to respond has been negated by your 1st remark ???

The feedback system, is IMO, a pretty sound idea, providing of course that everyone using it is fair and honest ! Luckily I have 100% feedback so far but it does annoy me when, as a buyer, I don't receive quick-ish positive feedback for a purchase. I figure that as soon as my payment has gone through, I've fulfilled my half of the contract .... however, I often find that sellers wait until I've given them positive feedback before I get mine. This technique almost implies that if, for some reason such as an item not being as described, I were to leave negative/neutral feedback, then I wouldn't get the positive feedback due to me !

Certainly, when I've sold stuff, I've always fedback to my buyer asap, irrespective of whether or not they've got the item. I don't feel the need to postpone this as I'm confident the stuff I've sold is genuine, and am happy to correspond via email re: any problems (not that I've had any, touch wood).

What were the circumstances surrounding the non-payment ? If you had given adequate time to pay, plus, say, polite reminders giving deadlines that weren't adhered to, I can understand you giving negative feedback. And if so, it seems very unfair your were given negative feedback by way of retaliation.

If you're sure you've done everything properly, I'd contact Ebay customer services to see if anything can be done.

yes i sold gig tickets and the idiot said he wanted me to post the tickets and if they got there in time he would pay me !     joker !  he told me this after he won the bid

Willow, I found some more blurb on Ebay's help pages which basically stated that feedback remarks, once said, are usually permanent, except in a few circumstances.

One of these - when they'll consider removing neg. feedback - is apparently when someone bids on something with the intention of getting the opportunity to leave neg. feedback but has no intention of paying. I read this as someone who is deliberately and negatively targetting another Ebayer, but in light of what your "buyer" told you, I'd take it up with them 'cos obviously he was trying it on big style.

(I take it you didn't post the tickets BTW !!!)

What a very stupid thing to say - he'd pay if the tickets arrived in time !!

Do get in touch with them and let us know the outcome ..... when I contacted them (on a non sale related matter) they got back to me very quickly.

What ebay say about feedback 'not being removable' is to maintain public confidence in the system, not to convey fact. In fact, it's a LLLLdy joke. 'Mutual feedback removal' is very easy to carry off with no input from ebay.

Can you let us know what the guy said? Unfair negative feedback is normally libelous, and most people that leave it would get the fright of their lives if you threatened to sue, because most people don't sue. I cancelled a sale with someone, she misunderstood the system (her admission), then left my first neg cos she was in a bad mood. So I threatened to sue (and I would have, and would have got damages). She 'mutually withdrew'.

Unfortunately I now have a '1 mutually withdrawn' permanently on my account, which looks horrible.

The best solution. Ahem. Set up multiple accounts. Most people don't even read your feedback, don't check how long you've been 'live', if they want the item they will buy it unless you have -3 feedback or something. And the main thing is that it removes the risk of heart attack everytime you recheck your feedback to see if some f** whit has been having a bad day or wants to blackmail you. Sure worked for me.
