question for the gentlemen

Recently a question was directed to the ladies, asking whether they would 'shop' their individual men if they knew that he had committed murder(s).

A hard question for men to answer would be:  if there was a great fire, or some huge accident, and only one life could be saved, that of his wife or that of his child, which would he choose?

I accept that it might be unanswerable.  I ask it because I have long reasoned that 'blood is thicker than...'    Children are of a father's flesh and blood whereas wives, even though they might be much loved, are a separate individual, not an actual blood relative.  Views from non-parents and/or singles welcome!

The objective, Darwinian option is to save your wife, as you have both already reached child bearing age and proved yourselves fertile. You can therefor go on to have more children and thereby continue your genes. The emotional, subjective option would, without doubt, be to save the child first. I'm a parent.

That was quick, chillum!  I'll look late tonight or tomorrow to see what other replies there are.
In the old question about a sinking ship and you in a lifeboat, room for 1 more , would you save child or partner - I would get out and put both my children in.
I chose my husband and would want to spend the rest of my life (however short ) with him.I chose to have children(not a particular child) and besides both children have their lives left to live.
I couldnot choose between children and husband if I also was to survive.
I belive a survey on this exact question has been  conducted and it was found that most women would save their child and most men would save their wife.

I'm afraid for me it would have to be my child. Much as I love my 'other half' dearly, I couldn't live with myself knowing the pain my adorable and innocent little 7 year old son would go through, and thinking how the people he loved would abandon him.

Since becoming a father, news of the death of a child (murder or accident) upsets me deeply. At least an adult has had the chance of life, and would accept the prospect of death better knowing this.

What a gloomy subject!!

As a father to be, I've pondered this question if anything goes wrong in child birth and I had to choose between the little one and my wife.

If I chose my wife, she would never forgive me. In fact, she would hate me I'm sure. End of marriage possibly.

If I chose the little one, the chances are I would hold it against it. A constant reminder to the death of my wife. On the other hand, a good reminder of who she was. I'd see parts of her in the little one all the time. Which can't be a bad thing.

Hm.... I'd go for the little one I think....
