Do you think that the big stores like Comet and PC world will pricematch with me for a Laptop I can find much cheaper online (Seems a weird old site, and I don't trust it, That's why I'm not buying from there...)

And also, Do you reckon I could barter (sp?) with them?

The laptop is 1300...

Give you 1100, mate?

What do you think Answerbankers? Do any of you work in said stores...would you let me barter?

Cheers!

I always barter. Worth a try, especially if you're paying cash.
Agree what have you got to lose? In this economic climate they mightg be more willing - I've bartered on white goods but never a pc or laptop.
The word you are looking for is haggle - barter is money free
Yep, definitely. Say:

"I can get this for 1,100 online. I'd prefer to buy it here, if you could match the price. Are you able to offer me any discount on your price?"

Generally these places actual policy says they won't match on-line stores.

But they will match their own on-line prices (which can be quite a lot cheaper) but you have to ask for it.

I got 75 off of a washing machine like that with Comet.

However it is still worth a try especially at the moment, they might be desperate.

Try www.ebuyer.co.uk for online - I've used them a lot with no problems

No, I'm not Dominic Littlewood, Although I wouldn't mind my family following me in with a camera crew to pressurise the staff haha.

Cheers guys. I'm gunna give it a shot, because I've seen the laptop for 1,070 online, but it's out of stock.

And, Jake-the-peg, I was gunna buy it from them, but I prefer the peace of mind of knowing I can take it to the shop if it breaks down, rather than posting it back to Apple.

Cheers!
Excellent, Greed Greed Greed, "what's in this for me?"

How little can I pay for this, whose life can I screw up by being greedy. Maybe another plastic Dali on the lounge wall, should look good alongside the 38 inch plasma screen.

Arrant greed has caused the current situation. Yes you carry on bartering, just make as much as you can for yourself. Bu$$er other people, just get out there and SPEND THE MINIMUM.

I will spend the minimum, Thank you.

I work god knows how many hours a week for just over minimum wage to make ends meet, I try to save and save so I can buy myself the odd luxury as a treat to myself, because I believe I deserve nice things.

Thank you.
I don't think it's consumer greed that has us where we are today Whiffey as much as speculative investor greed.

I've sent stuff back to Ebuyer :ACE: you can even ring them up and sort out any problems - but if you're happier with a big name - well that's what you are paying the extra for!
I have nothing constructive to add, only this.. bloody hell, that's a lot of money for a laptop! I hope it makes good coffee ;o)
Whiffey, the store can always refuse the sale.
Anyone who wants to pay more than is necessary for an item is crazy in my book.
The local Comet, Currys near me only price match against other local retailers and the item has to be in stock at the other electrical shop before they do it.
Aaargh - I've just seen one of my pet hates!!!. Even presenters of antique shows on TV are guilty of it. but pleeeeze, Ethel and Whiffy, the word is bargain, not barter!!! (Goes off to sob in a corner). :-)
