Every time I switch off the comp there is a message asking me to click "Switch off" to upload important updates but it doesn't upload them.
And, in the info bar (the one at the bottom??) there is a yellow Windows shield telling me that updates are ready to upload. Every time I do this the same dialogue box comes up with this message ." some updates could not be installed"

Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB959614)
Update for Office 2003 (KB907417)

I'm getting fed up with it! Does anyone know how to effect a cure??
Many thanks Chris

Are you sure it asks you to click "Switch off"?
In my experience it says "Updates are being installed DO NOT SWITCH OFF"

Yes. It's as I switch off it says click here to download updates before switching off or click here to switch off without uploading. Which ever I choose it comes back the next time I go to switch off.
Thanks Chris
The yellow shield means that you have uploads waiting to be downloaded and installed.... if it is asking you to switch off then the updates should have been downloaded and installed, and the computer needs to be restarted in order for the changes to take effect.
If the installation's aren't working, then prehaps you need to reinstall the programs that are affected
Yes, I've got this as well and it's a real pain. I've also found that if you turn off automatic updates to stop it happening again, Windows nags you all the time that you're not protected. With Windows it seems you just can't win!

By the way the update I can't install is:
Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)

Best of luck Geoff
Just this afternoon I've downloaded a program called RegCure which scans your registry, identifies problems in Windows Updates and then fixes the faults. Now I've got rid of that annoying little shield and the update nags. Whether its gone away for good I dont know yet, but its worth a try. Hope this helps you out of this incedibly annoying problem.
