i am currently in the states and have a tom tom from the uk. how do i download the usa map/highways onto the tom tom? the only lead i have with me is to plug into the cigarette lighter in the car.

Does it have a card in it? Or do you plug it into the PC usually?
I'm not sure you will be able to use a UK tomtom in the US TBH

if it's only meant for use in the UK you will have to buy maps from the tomtom website. make sure you buy the right one for your version.

it does have a smartmedia card inside it yes, im staying with an american friend who has a computer and the idea was to download the maps onto my tom tom here but do i need a lead?

mmm, on the bottom of my tom tom it says bluetooth, does this mean i can download off the computer with blue tooth turned on on the computer, im really not into computers so wouldnt know how to do this, if anyone can shed any light on this it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Go to Start/programs/Accessories/Communications/Bluetooth. The wizard will open - follow thru. Put the tom tom near pc for blue tooth to pass file. Or bluetooth file from pc to mobile phone then to tom tom.

Take the card out of the Tom Tom and put it in the computer. Just be aware that the card supplied might not have enough room to put the maps on, so you might have to buy a new SD card

thanks everyone, got it sorted. bought a cable to hook up to computer and a new media card for more memory.
