police caution or reprimand

if you are in receipt of one of the above, would you get a piece of paper confirming it? someone did a silly thing in 1995 (ahem) and cant remember the outcome, but is having to fill out a job application form for a post that requires you declare any police caution or reprimand. ive tried phoning the police and the data protection manager, but they cant tell me.... for data protection purposes.

You are entitled under the provisions of the Data Protection Act to be told what details, if any, are held about you.

You have to apply in writing.

Try Googling The Data Protection Act and it will give you the necessary details.
