My nan died and my dad is awaiting probate so he can deal with her estate and sell her house etc. Everyone else is fine to wait for payment but the water board keep sending bills and saying my dad should pay. My dad doesnt want to keep dipping into his savings to pay it. What are his rights?

as far as i can see, if the bill is in your nans name, they cant make your dad pay it. They can only take it out of her estate, and if he hasnt got access to it yet, they cant get it, surely?
Bednobs is right - and if there is not enough money in the estate to cover the debt they will still not be paid and your dad will not be liable. Tell them to wait.
when my dad died i informed the utility people and everyone was ok, except the water company, in the end i said ok the account is in his name i suggest you send it to him but im not sure how long you will have to wait for a reply, funnily enough i didnt hear from them anymore!!
Is your nans property empty? This makes a big difference. Perhaps you could visit us at www.iwc-ltd.co.uk and make contact if you are still having problems.
