I have a new hard drive in an external case that is connected to my computer via USB cable. It has been recognised by the computer after being plugged in, and comes up on the devices list, has all the latest drivers etc but I can't for the life of me figure out how to access it! I assumed it would come up as another drive in 'My Computer', but it hasn't. Should it be there? Where else might it be? I am running Windows XP.

It should show in My Computer. Check that its installed ok in device manager just to be sure.

Yup, it's there under the USB bit as 'USB mass storage device', and under 'disc drives' as 'Samsung SP1614N USB device'. Still nothing in My Computer though.
Aha saw this at work the other day, you need to format the drive, go to control panel, administrative tools, computer management, then disk management and your new drive should show up there, you then right click on it and format and explorer should then be able to see it.

Bingo! It is formatting as I type. Many thanks.
