Big brother is watching you!

I had an interesting conversation today when I was out for lunch with some friends. It would seem that the Goverment has plans to compel social networking sites to give them information about you. They say it's to counter terrorism but where will it stop? Apparently they can track what pictures, who's profiles and what website people visit through the networking sites, such as facebook, bebo and myspace. How do you feel about big brother invading your internet life in such a way?

This conversation started at the pub quiz. When sitting in company when people are talking about such things then reading the stuff out there on that website it kind of put the wind up me. I'm probably panicking over nothing, you just don't know nowadays!
Unless you're a peadophile, a terrorist or such then you have nothing to worry about...
Who cares who knows? I mean, why the panic. Did you ever fill in a questionaire with all the wrong answers, just for a hoot.

Storing information about you without you knowing ummmm is something to worry about. Some random should not be allowed to access my bebo or whatever account I may use without me knowing. It's an invasion of privacy to the highest level. Do you think all goverment people are ligit? All I'm saying is, that site I looked at kinda spooked me, the things they say people can access about me and people on my account for whatever reason scares the **** out of me!
It doesn't bother me in the slightest. But I guarantee they have been doing it for about the life of the internet.....!!!

They have no interest in Joe Bloggs. They do not care how much porn we watch and so on and so on. The internet has made it easier for certain immoral and down right disgusting people to access material/weapons/whatever. If they check on us and save us....so be it.

If you want privacy.....contact people via royal mail...!!!

Even that's not guaranteed :-)

I just think it's wrong that if someone chooses to do so, they can hack my private account containing pictures and private conversations between me and friends and family without me knowing any time they feel like it for whatever reason. You both have an opinion, and if you're not worried about it fair do's, it's been brought to my attention and it's given me something to think about. Big brother is certainly watching us and I for one am not happy.

if it worries you on this level I suggest that you delete your bebo account and like ummm says rely on snail mail, at least you will have peace of mind that your privacy can remain in tact.

I would rather the nasty people were kept an eye on, so I am all for it.
Maziy2009 I couldn't agree with you more! Have a gander at this organisations website..

http://www.privacyinternational.org/

They invite you to join their FaceBook group but I'd watch out if I wer you tho!!!!

Our minds will have to stop meeting like this ! I've agreed with everything you've posted. Are you sure you're not me??

Maizey:

From personal knowledge, I can assure you that nobody, apart from your local neighbourhood flasher, is likely to be peering through your window - or anywhere else, for that matter. If you do see anyone, tell the Police - for it wouldn't have been them ! Rest in peace.
I peer through peoples' windows, but only for a laugh.

cazzz1975 I'm seriously considering it. I'm all for them bringing down crime rings, I just don't like the thought of my privacy being invaded.

Thanks for the link Joanne81. I'll go have a read at that.
Question Author
I checked a few links, within that link Joanne81. A lot of interesting reading. These sites aren't safe. They may not want you but they can certainly 'snoop' into your account if they want. One Goverment spokes person said

"Tens of millions of people use sites like Facebook, Bebo and MySpace to chat with friends, but ministers say they have no interest in the content of discussions - just who people have been talking to"

Invasion of privacy without you even knowing. Looking at conversations and pictures of your friends and family, it doesn't matter if you're Joe Bloggs or the Queen they WILL check you out. It's like a lottery everyday thousands of people are checked out, how do you know it's not YOU?
