I'm trying to find a good cook book! I can't be bothered with all this posh cooking and would really like a book that gives all the basics in one. Spag bol, veg soup, lasagne, fish and chips. Simple receipies as opposed to posh stuff that I don't want to cook. I love chicken so the more of that the better! Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Go for anything by any of these tremendously good chefs (who can also write well too)

Jamie Oliver - inventive but practical too
Delia Smith - basics, well tried and tested
Rose Elliot - great for something slightly different (plus veggie)
Nigel Slater - sexiest chef around, seriously good food (his chips are superb !!!)
Readers Digest.........The COOKERY YEAR.........Brilliant

Aw brilliant! Thanks a lot for replying so soon you two! I will have a look at those but it sounds very promising!! :O)
MsBehave,

Go to www.Amazon.com and type in cook books, there is 100s and very cheap.
a friend of mine has recently published a good cook book,no i'm not biased it is good.it's called "a kitchen year" by Paula McIntyre. If you check it out on Amazon and go into the book, you can see a list of the dishes.
Delia Smith's "How to Cook" I've been cooking for years but still find this useful. It has all the basics.
I don't think you can ever go wrong with any of Delia's books and I have found Jamie's Ministry of Food a very good and easy to follow book.
For a really comprehensive coverage, Good Housekeeping`s Cookery Book is hard to beat in my humble opinion.
A friend told me Jamie's Ministry of Food is good for learning the basics.
I absolutely SWEAR by the BBC Good Food website, and likewise the recipe book of recipes from it. I use it 4 or 5 times a week at least.

Interesting recipes, good variety and easily followed. Check out the website for a taster, and then get the book. Has been on offer at WHS for a while.

The Good Housekeeping: Cookery Book: The Cook's Classic Companion was always my favourite growing up, lots of classics, and very easy. The pancake recipe in here is better than Delias, and she is easy and good.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. I think I have 'good cook' potential but I can get put off by difficult recipies. It doesn't help that i'm such a fussy eater either. lol. I'm a chicken and potato girl, i'm not into 'fancy' food if you know what I mean. I'm definitely going to look at all those books. Someone at work has also mentioned about the BBC good food website so i'll be having a look there too. Thanks again everybody!! :O)
sorry wrong link
