I have a chrysler PT Cruiser. Its just had a mot which cost 400. It has come back which appears to be nothing working on the dash board i.e no speedometer oil petrol gauge no mileage and the interior lights.

It will sometimes all work for a couple of minutes then all disapears again

Am very frustrated as mechanic has took no responsilbilty. So it is now in a electronics and programming place.

I have no idea about cars and am really worried that im going to have hefty bill.

Has anyone experienced this or know anything about it.

Would really appreciate any advice.

Hi, what you have stated has no bearing with the MOT, nothing within their testing your car would have effected the Electrics to the point they all failed, the part of the electric system they check are ALL lights, All flashers, Wipers/washers, Some check to see if your dash lights are working, but not all, You said it cost 400 for the MOT!! what has been done to the car for this sort of money? Has any welding been done? If so, they should have disconnected the battery, ask them or check your bill.

It had two new tyres and two front bearings. It all worked at this point. Then the mecanic said that a fuse had gone. When spoke to Chrysler apparently there isn't even a fuse to cause all this.

So the mecanic pulled out dash and said we need new circuit board. I got the impression he was making matters worse with lack of knowledge.

So have took it into programmers and electronics garage and am waiting to hear.

But am so anoid as all this worked before mot and after mot. He is saying its not his fault and it could of happend at any point just bad luck it was with him.

Its driving me mad. As ive now got a car that is no use to no one plus another bill.
Hi Fluffy, phone up the garage and state what you have just said, With respect you have made matters worse for yourself by taking it to another garage you should have said that the car was OK before they started messing around with it, did anyone hear what the Mechanic said to you? If you can witness this you can take this matter further, What made him/her say a fuse had gone? this puzzles me unless there was a bulb out & with some models if you have the Ign on whilst changing a bulb it will blow a fuse. Contact them & ask what made them say that you had a fuse out & what caused the fuse to blow. Do not get Pushed around on this stick to your guns.

I have said to him that it all came in working that it should of come out working. At the time thought I was making things worse but was worried he was going to make it worse. So thats why I asked him to put my dash together so I could take it to someone who new what they was doing.

I think if I ring him now Im not going to get nowhere. As didnt get anywhere in first place. This was over the phone he explained all this. I didnt collect car either.

I think he said the fuse had gone because there was no electric on dashboard.

The people its with now have said his cracked all my dash there is screws missing and generally a mess.

Sorry many thanks TWR. Much appreciated
Hi, If you have a word with the Elect the car is now with, & get him to ring the dealer & explain the damage that has been caused you may get somewhere after all, It's you who's paying for some one else's error, Good Luck.

Good idea many thanks.
you better stick to main dealer for those. Chysler are dodgy cars at best of times, even they can't fix them. My mate had to scrap his after 7 years, not worth mending - the spares and labour were horrific.
