I'm over 32 weeks pregnant now. Me and the babys father unfortunately split up when i was about 21 weeks pregnant. We are not married and not even together now.
We still speak and he is going to be involved in the babys life.
We decided to call him Theo Wilson, Wilson is the fathers last name. I was thinking, i could give him my last name, which is Parkin, couldn't i?
What does everyone think? I'm confused what i sould do now :/

I think lozzy means if shaunzy marries someone in the future not necasssarily the babys dad.

I like the idea of the hyphenanted name. i'm with my baby's dad and the baby has his surname, but I have regretted it every day since registering her. Even if we got married (v.unlikely) I wouldn't want his name. Everyone assumes I am 'Mrs whatever' just because it's my daughters surname, I really wish I'd used my surname too. I wouldn't have used it intead because like i said we are still together and he'll always be a part of her life.

Anyway the whole point of this story is that it's a big decision and I do agree with lozzy if you meet somebody new and marry him the child will still be parkin which won't be his mum's name or dad's name. Confusing, trust me my mum, brother and me all have different surnames!

ps. love the name Theo!!
k8bailey, shaunzy ran the name Theo by us a while back and we liked it :o)
yeah i did mean if the mom re marries. they may have split up but he will always be the childs father no matter whever they are together or not.
sorry lozzy, i understand what you meant now :)
hello, i think you should give him the fathers name, simply because if you get married to another man then your surname will change and your child will not have his mother or fathers name,

i kinda had that dilema for a while, my daughter is 7 and me and my partner are still together but went through a rocky period when she was born, but i never had any doubt that i would name her after her dad especially if we split up as i wouldnt want her to have a different name from both of us

Thanx k8bailey, glad u like the name theo :)

Thanx every1 for your comments. I do like the idea of using both surnames wilson-parkin. I deffo want my surname in their now though, with me and the father not being together.

Just a thought, say i did just use my surname parkin and i did marry someone other than the babys father, couldnt the surname be changed if the child wanted to? to either the new surname or his fathers surname.
You could give the baby your surname or a combination of both yours and your ex partners and if you subsequently get married to someone else, just keep your own surname instead of changing it.
