when giving nutritional information, the cereal packets often state the amount 'per 45g portion'. Is this the suggested size portion? I am sure that's not enough for me in the mornings!

Yes this is the amount dieticians suggest is 'normal' for a normal person. But you are right! It's too little.

I've taken to having porridge for breakfast in the mornings now for the same amount (45-50g) its very filling and healthy and keeps you going til lunchtime.

no, its not dieticians. Manufacturers are free to set any portion size they like and then give the calories, fat, salt etc for that portion. This makes us thing wow, tha'ts not too bad, I'll have some, but in reality, we dont weigh or measure the portion and probably eat 2 or 3 times the amount. Next time to buy a cake, take a look at how many the cake is supposed to serve and the portion size, its really laughable
Just have two bowls of cereal. That's what I do. They may even be over 45g each. I just don't read the label.
