My broadband Internet provider is Virgin Media. My laptop is Toshiba P10-804 (5 years old) that has wireless card built-in and supports b type wireless connection. The router is Netgear WGR614 54Mbps that suppors b and g types wireless connections.

It seems I can't access Internet with wireless router because my laptop keeps saying that it is not able to connect to the Internet even though I kept trying to set up wireless connection (follow step by step instruction from CD that comes with the router). Everytime I followed the set up CD about half way, it told me that my laptop wireless card is not supported. So now I give up with this.

However, is there anybody there who will know that if I use USB ethernet car adpater (whatever you call it ... lol) I would able to solve my problem and let me access Intertnet wirelessly with this laptop without having had to buy a new laptop?

Thanks.

My router, a Linksys, can be set up on the router admin pages to connect b, g or b and g wireless.

Check yours is not set to g only. Check also the channel - Channel 11 should be the best.

How and where do I check it?
You need to open your router admin page.

Try typing

192.168.1.1

in the address bar (not the search bar)
and login by either leaving the username blank and putting "admin" in the password.... or admin in both username and password

Hi Ethel and Chuck,

Thank you very much for your advice. After following your advice, I can get access to the Internet wirelessly even without using USB adapter.

However, I have to use "Wireless zero configuration" to manage my wireless connection. Otherwise I won't be able to connect to the my network.

Is there any other way so that I don't have to use this service to connect to my wireless network?

Thanks.
