Electric shower unit

Please can anyone help us? We have an electric shower which we think must be "chalked up". We have descaled the shower head, but think the unit must be covered in scale, but cannot work out how to do this. Many thanks for any help.

if it's that bad Farty.................then I think it would be better to replace it.................I might be wrong, but I can't think of aything you could safely do to get into the tank that contains the element
