Ive tryed for hours to connect the xbox360 to xbox live via a ethernet lead plugged dirrectly into the laptop. The laptop runs on vista home 32bit and has a t-mobile (uk) 3G usb device HUAWEI E220. The dial up connection has been enabled to share in network connections. The xbox 360 trys to connect on test but fails on the first sequence of tests the IP address. Please help, Thank you.

normal ethernet lead??

Won't work if so. you either need a network hub/switch as well or use a crossover cable
Crossover cable essential for this and and you need to enable internet sharing on the laptop. It can be done - I have done exactly the same using the same kit but over the 3 network.
