how to stop cassette indicator symbol flashin on JVC camcorder??

I bought a JVC GRFXM40 camcorder yesterday and today the second time I go to try it out the cassette indicator light is flashing. I have changed the tape and the problem is still there- does anyone have any advice on how I can fix this???? as I'm going on hols on Friday morning and i'm desperate!

It *could* be that the tape has had the "don't-record-over-accidentally" button flipped?  Sorry for non-technical term but I'm a girl (say no more!), but this happens with our camcorder - would have thought that your tapes are new, but you never know if it's switched that way when it leaves the factory.  Examnie the tape and see if there is anything that could switch up/down on/off - this is the magic button thingy I am talking about - tends to be on the side of the tape itself.

Worth a shot though!

thanks for your help, I have already tried that one! the 'erase protection tab' apparently its called-i'm also a girl and have no clue!! it is working today so hopefully will work in NY this weekend! if not its going back to the website I got it from-thanks again :)
