can anyone provide a clue as to the seasonal link?

I have solved most of the cryptic clues and happy to share answers, but no progress on the seasonal link.

Cheers, and best wishes to all for 2009

After 1 across The First, I think its names linked with Noel or Leon, eg Gallagher, Edmonds, Streatfeild, and Trotsky, but I cant get them all.
I agree with sgrbooks - 8D looks like KINGS OF (Leon).
But some involve LONE (another anagram of NOEL) e.g. 47A looks like (Lone) STAR STATE and 46D (Lone) RANGER.
Anyone got 42D?
coward & gay
42d fascist, I'm still looking for 35d, 39d and 40d, any ideas?
-- answer removed --
Thanks for 42D. 39D could be (Leon) JACKSON, 35D might be (Noel) HENTSCHEL, and 40D may be YULE TIDE.
How about 18A and 19D?
Thanks Xman. I have 18ac DENHOLM and 19d is my last missing Noel/Leon/Lone? N---Y
Thanks - I thought it was Denholm but didn't see how it fitted all the clue. How do you like (LEONard) NIMOY for 19D?

thanks to all for the answers

I had 33d as eras which was throwing me off. I see that it must be days, so that streatfield and jay can then fit.

hope the New Year crossword is back to good old Myops.

good luck and best for 2009
Puzzlemaniac, it's STREATFEILD, unlikely though it may seem!

thanks Xman, overzealous in my spell checking!
thanks xman et al
Maurice Denholm is perhaps the noted actor referred to in 18A.

40D - perhaps (lone) some pine.

Not sure about Nimoy for 19D, though.
