When you have microwave instructions that tell you to "leave to stand for 1 minute", does that have to be IN the microwave or can I take it out and let it stand on the side, therefore allowing use of the microwave again?

Unlike ordinary /fan/ convection ovens, microwaves don't really retain heat, so it doesn't matter one way or the other.

Yes, take it out and continue to use microwave. I think standing time is to allow the heat to distribute evenly through the food - the microwaving has stopped.
i take it out - I think it just means don't stir it.

OK Thanks. I have been leaving it in but that is mainly because it normally says leave for 1 minute and I am impatient and my microwave beeps again after 1 minute if the door hasnt been opened so i know when its ready!

Good to know that I can take it out though.

You can take the food out of the microwave. The standing time is because the food is still cooking.
..and to allow the steam to go away so you don't burn your hand and take the company to court..
