Unfortunately i've tried that... Thank you tho'
optical or the old fashioned type mouse ?..
Question Author
optical, it's getting really bad now
This can sometimes happen if there is a virus scan taking place in the background.

Nope no virus scan running thank's tho'
Have you tried it on different surfaces... optical mice can be very touchy about what you use them on.

Also clean the sensor underneath with a cotton bud..

if it still plays about may be time to get another one... I've seen several go funny and require replacement.

Tried it to no avail, also tried my old mouse. I think problem is deeper than the mouse...I just read your reply and the pointer just froze. I had to switch off at wall and reboot think I'm gonna after put restore disc in oh well there goes another 6/7 hours gathering up lost info.. Thanks you for all replies and help offered
Assuming it's a USB mouse - do you have any other USB devices connected? Jabber on the bus can screw the mouse. Try disconnecting all other USB devices and restarting.
Replace the batteries in the mouse,i had the same trouble
