Am I pregnant??

I'm looking for advice as to whether I could be pregnant or not. It would be great if a nurse or doctor came on here and read this... or maybe someone with a similar experience. Of course, I will end up seeing a doctor/having a pregnancy test etc.. but I just wanted to hear someone else's thoughts. So excuse my bluntness, but I will be speaking openly about this just so people can relate exactly to what I mean.

My partner and I had intercourse last month, a few times over the space of a week. I wasn't due to have a period yet, but during intercourse I bled. This bleeding came with cramps and only lasted a day (Normally my periods last 5 days.) I felt that something was different from then. We also had intercourse after that bleeding too. A month later, I was very late having my period and my bleeding wasn't the same. Even though I had that bleeding, I still felt that maybe there could be a chance that I was pregnant. Now I'm having frequent dizzy spells, almost feeling like I could pass out... I'm having abdominal cramps, headaches and back pain that causes me to need support with a pillow when I sleep. There is also this feeling of 'stretching' within the groin area too. And nerve pains down my leg like as if something is pressing on the sciatic nerve. The one big thing that would lessen the chance of pregnancy is that my partner has had a vasectomy. Of course this is a HUGE factor. But I still 'feel' pregnant. The chances must be very low, but it's not impossible. Can you help? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

The things you describe, in my opinion, don't happen that early.
A vasectomy is normally permanent, so once it has been carried out successfully they do semen tests to show there is no sperm present.

It is doubtful that your symptoms are pregnancy related, but to put your mind at reast, just do the test.
It's really difficult to say Emma. But my first thoughts aren't pregancy to be honest (I'm a nurse by the way!!!). It could be cervical erosion - where the lining of the cervix erodes especially during or after intercourse. It's harmless but annoying. Or you could have something gynaecological going on which requires investigation. Is there any chance you could be carrying a sexually transmitted infection? Some of these can cause similar symptoms to what you describe (sorry I'm not trying to panic you I just need to cover all the possibilities). You say your partner has had a vasectomy so the chances of pregnancy are slim however, it's not unheard of so if I were you I'd invest 10 in a DIY test which are pretty accurate. This would at least give you a starting point as to what further investigations you may need. The contraceptive pill can also cause erratic bleeding and it also increases the likelyhood of cervical erosion. Do you take this for any reason other than as a contraceptive? If so, have you changed the type of pill recently? Is your partner particularly well endowed? This is another reason for cervical erosion. If you are losing alot of blood this may account for your dizziness/headaches as you may be anaemic. The stretching feeling could just be groin strain due to frequent sex (it does happen!!!!). Also, you don't say how old you are?

So in short, it could be a number of things. If I were you, I'd take a pregnancy test and go from there. If it is positive, see your GP. If it is negative either make an appointment with your GP or your practice nurse. The practice nurse will be able to examine you (she can tell by looking inside you if you have signs of erosion) and she can also carry out a smear to check for other reasons. However, as I said earlier, pregnancy is always possible. I never say never........

However, it's vital you get this checked. So please don't delay! Let us know how you get on!
I'm no doctor but it doesn't sound like you're pregnant to me but I would advise you go to your doctor and tell them the above as it could be something else like pcos...
Ooh there's one I missed Eash! Polycystic Ovary Syndrome!
