Do people think managers make rash, vindictive petty decisions just out of sheer spite????? why do some part-time workers, or come to that full time workers, live under the self-obsessed idea that their employer 1) can't manage without them and 2) Will change an entire rota (that took time to do) to accomodate their social/domestic needs. Get a grip, if you have a job do it or get out and let someone else have it. Trust me, in 12 months time, people will be glad to work any day of the week!!!

"one girl has had her mum ring in to say she can't work christmas eve, boxing day or over new year"

her mum? fine example shes setting!

it does work the other way too though. I was emplyed ( a permanent role) to work with a store, train as manager and then be given my own store. I worked for the manager and assistant all over the xmas and new year hols (it was a convenience store so opened every day early til late), covered a weeks holiday for them too and mid january they said they didnt have a store for me and let me go!
That is annoying Dot.

My daughter is desperate to find a part time job late evenings and weekends for both experience in the workforce and some extra spending money whilst she's studying but so far she's had no luck. She always seems to get the 'We've got enough C.V's in at the moment.' line.

And then there's me.. I'm having to return to work part time due to childcare costing so much as my current job wouldn't cover the fees if I stay full time. There's no point in working full time, putting the little ones in full time nursery and still having no financial gain to provide a better lifestyle for them, if you see what I mean. So the plan is for me to work mornings, pick the babies up from nursery, spend some quality time with them and then when Mr Lore gets home each evening, I'll be off to another evening/weekend job to make up the pennies.
But what are the chances of getting a few extra hours tho when the likes of your temps are taking up 'wanted' positions. ( not that I'm suggesting that all temps are like this, just the ones who don't seem to take work seriously)
