Why do we clap our hands when we are applauding another's efforts (like in the theatre, at the concert, after a speech etc)?

Do other societies also clap to express our delight or approval ?

One intrigued Jugglering...

No idea... I can't be @rsed to Google it... but a big round of applause for an interesting question.
lol @ snagged

yeah I think its universal juggs, and posh folk just kinda tap their fingers on their hand instead of a full-handed clap lol

I am sure it's not universal though... but why I think that is a bit beyond me right now... As you say, snaggedwithspeciala, I also cannot be arsed to google it... I was just convinced that some of the brilliant folk on here would know the real reason !

Don't worry about the stars, just keep spraying under the arms before you venture into Woolworths.
