I'm thinking about adopting a 9 month old Shih Tzu. I've heard they can be high maintenance with grooming (trimmed every 3 weeks at grooming parlour, weekly baths etc) also read that they are difficult to house train. Heard good and bad about their temperament. Would like some advice form a Shih Tzu owner. Would love this little dog but need to know more information from someone who owns one. Many thanks

Im in the same situation! Ive heard good and bad too! It depends on the puppy unfortunatly! My Aunty has got one and it suffers quite badly from skin problems - so check if your pups parents have had any problems etc!
The thing i have found is every dog has its problems - some have more than others and you will never know till you actually have it! So if you really want him get him and just be prepared for some vets bills same for everyone though i think!
hi we have a 3 yr old our first ever dog and up till 4 wks ago was kept outside in a shed as a breeding machine,,,its been the best 4 wks ever we had training mat which she used but now goes outside for her wee ect loves company and very lovable ,,easy to bath and good grooming brush she just site there letting you brush i could go on for ever bout her,,go for it will be so much joy that they bring to you we wouldnt be without her now even though iv always said no dogs good luck
Go ahead ajfitz and adopt the nine month old. When you meet it you will very soon know whether it is a loving dog or not so nice. I have had two previously to the puppy that I have now who is 15 weeks and they are the most loving and affectionate dogs I know. A trim about every six weeks will be necessary to keep his coat in good order. There are alway vet bills with any dogs these days but I don't think the Shih Tzu is any worse than any other dog. Good Luck with the young dog.
