If there's a competition, should we not be telt exactly how the winner will be judged?

If it's based upon the number of responses to a particular thread, does it not follow that a popular thread that's been here since to-day (12.11.08) will get more responses before the closing date than if that very same thread had been posted on 20.11.08?

Will it be judged upon the quality of responses? If so, who will be the arbiter?

Why does it have to be posted in AB Polls AND ChatterBank?

Do you think I should post ma question in CB and AB Polls?
not if you want an answer... Since threads are to be posted in CB, it suggests the sort of question that seeks an answer is not what they want at all.
just stick with the progranmme and do as you're told, !!! Unlike me, I'm not happy with it and think it is daft

If we want to be included in the competition, we need to post in both topics for some strange reason. No doubt we'll get an answer to-morrow.
. . . and why do we have to have a post of the week, rather than a member of the week (or month). For instance, I'd love to see VHG rewarded for all of the hard work he puts into answers like this:

I don't think that this is a good direction for AB to take.

A 'competition' should be won on merit or due to a person's helpfulness in solving a problem over and beyond ..... NOT on whether they can think up some ditty of a question that attracts controversy thus attracting tons of posters.

AB is a good site - it needs improving (what site doesn't) but what is needed is for the AB staff to be more approachable. I have been on AB for a couple of years and have no idea of who owns the site, the number of staff - what direction they want to take and so much more.

Improving the search facility would be a great place to start.

I presume it's a move to increase page traffic and boost advertising. As websites cost money to run, and this one is free to members, that's fair enough. odd idea, all the same.
It would be a better idea surely for us to post our suggestions for Post of the Week in AB polls rather than people making up questions just to win a competition. There are good postings (either humourous or thought provoking all over the site), which far outweigh anything offered up for the competition.

It's just a bit of fun, folks... we're not judging this thing by a strict set of rules and guidlines, it's just for a laugh.

It is our hope than when the developments come around we can have monthly prizes for the most helpful users (based on quality, post ratings and amount of posts).

As for this current comp, we just decided to do it for fun and to see what will happen, yet there are still people who are moaning and unhappy with it!

Would anything like this have happened 6 months ago? I seriously doubt it... at least I'm trying to make the effort to improve things around here, and with the tools I currently have it can be difficult.

So rather than moaning about everything and saying it's a bad idea, why not just go for it? Write something interesting and see if you win some vouchers - simple!

For Answerbank to be a better place it needs your help too.

Oh, and if you come across any posts that you think are interesting and could win the prize then just send an email to me with a link to said post and who the poster is!

Ed
Wasn't moaning, just being constructive. And thanks for that last paragraph Ed!

Well I think it is a bit of fun to liven up what has become in the past few weeks a bit of a dull place to be!!

Well done ED and all your team for coming up with the idea.
And for those of you who ar not interested in it....don't submit a post.
