I've just started a book club and will need to buy books regularly. The first book I bought from Amazon which was 1p but 2.95 postage and packing. Does anyone know a cheaper source, cos I don't want to have to pay that much for a 2nd hand book each time. Charity shops would be hit and miss, can't guarantee they'd have the set book available. Any ideas please.

eBay? Don't think you'll get away with a lot less than 2 to 3 though, time you've paid postage.
Can't you use the library? It seems a shame to spend out money if you are only going to read them once. The library I work at has a reading group ticket which allows reading groups to reserve sets of books without paying any reservation fees. A lot of libraries do this.
that seems a fair enough price for a second-hand book - I doubt postage really costs that much, but it does cost something. If you went to a charity shop you might be having to factor in your bus fare or something, and they won't be selling much for 1p. So yes, library?

Thanks for your answers. I do buy boooks in charity shops, but wouldn't look for a particular title cos it would take a month of Sundays to find it.
If the book club wanted us to read a recently published book, would it be likely to be found in the library?
Yes, and you can reserve books in the library.
Your public library will have all the latest books.

Great! Thanks all :-)
Libraries often have special arrangements for book groups. Our service supports twenty-odd groups. Groups are sent lists of available titles each month and they have to select a couple of months in advance. Sometimes, if they have a particular requirement (one group likes plays, for instance), then they can request them. We also have social events two or three times a year where groups can get together and share their thoughts. And it's all free!

I'm sure we can't be the only library service doing this.
