Hi i have an intolerance to kiwi-fruit where my throat closes up i have had blood tests to rule out peanut allergy but today i ate a cashew nut and my throat felt as though it was closing up and tingling and itching on my mouth, had to have piriton which relieved the symptoms, does any one else have no reaction with one type of nut then another type can cause a problem?

not a nut but deffo sea food, even prawn flavoured crisps and i get that same reaction as you, it is hereditary u know, allergies, bet a parent of yours was asthmatic or had a penicillin allergy or something
maybe you should get a broad spectrum food intolerance test that would tell you which of many foods you may be allergic to including a number of different varieties of nuts.
Hi, doctor. If you are indeed allergic to nuts this is the absolutely the wrong place to be visiting:)
Absolutely
Peanuts are not nuts they are a legume, the nut part of their name is because they resemble nuts and are roasted the same way as nuts but it's more a fruit than a nut. Technically since they are not actually related in any way it's more common to be allergic to one and not the other. But to readress this question even within actuall nuts it is common to only be allergic to certain ones. The problem is scientists are baffled as to what causes these allergies. If you had a reaction to nuts I suggest you carry some kind of alert. In the states I recomend patients to carry a bracelet http://www.peanutallergy.com/bracelets.html but in the good old U.K. you can probably get it put into your NHS card.
