We've a whirlpool bath that we hardly use (the whirlpool effect that is not the bath itself :-) !!

We hardly turn the whirlpool on cos the noise of the motor is so loud that it is hardly relaxing!

Any ideas as to what we can do to minimise the noise? (ps - the motor is situated underneath the bath itself)

they're normally situated on concrete floor at ground level, for this reason......hope your isn't upstairs on wood floor.
I have one evedawn. It is on a concrete floor in my bungalow and is quite noisey but I'm used to it. And I haven't had the bath panels fitted yet. It is a bit quieter on the less robust setting. It is a fair sized motor so I don't expect it to run that quietly.

Why not consider some ear plugs? Shame to miss out on the effect because you find it too noisey.

PS - i was wondering if there's any sorta "insulation" or "soundproofing" material that I can pack around the motor?
Re insulation evedawn; motors can get quite warm so be careful about what insulation, if any, should be used and the proximity of it. They will need some air flow too.
