Baytril is a very expensive antibiotic, but stronghhold at 25 sounds rather excessive. It does sound a high bill even to me as I know my vets are very expensive, but there is quite a lot of medication there.

Have you thought of taking out some insurance.

My friend was speaking to AFI today who are bringing out some cheap insurance costing just 4.50 a month, it should be out towards the end of this month, dont know what it covers though. Difference with their insurance is that if you are covered for say 2K, it is 2K per condition as opposed to annual cover for everything if that makes sense.

thank you jules, im checking the link now.
i know if the dog is ill, i would try my best to get her healed, but im a bit annoyed thevet didnt discuss about options with me before giving the treatment, as im lack of knowladge of pets illness, and also the language skill, as my english isnt that good...so i feel a bit unsure if it is a fair cost or not.
mi---something:(..........for the bill you've paid you're entitled to know the prognosis. Ask the vet what it is then look it up on the internet.....maybe just mites, which would only require an insecticide bath.

yep.tera
he said mites, thats the word he gave me!!!
i m not sure he give me expensive medications purposely ?
does mites be quite common and easy cured disease?cheers?
here's ur answer. Get from tack shop (sell horsey stuff) cheaper than vets.

http://www.nustock.com/

Mites is a form of mange and can be caught where foxes have roamed or other animals. Its contagious, people can get it off their pets.

Look further at mites in google, as their were older remedies, ie like a sheep dip insecticide.

thank you for the help, i dont like that guy in the vet, apart the bill, they are not very friendly i feel:(
i will order some cream online for leila.

feel a bit useless about myself lately, even those tiny things i couldnt deal with well...couldnt take care of anything well.....
mirela .... insurance companies have an 'excess cost' according to the animals being insured (risk-related). Vets know this and price their service accordingly. ie if the excess was 100 and the vet charged 145, you could only claim 45 from the insurance company.
Also don't forget that Insurers will not cover most existing conditions or any treatment that has already been started.

The bill, unfortunately, sounds about right. They probably charged extra for applying the Stronghold. The consultation fee at 19.00 is 6.00 cheaper than my vet chares now.

67.00 for Marbocyl sounds expensive, but checking on here it seems to be an expensive drug.

Whilst I am happy to use aloe vera, colloidal silver etc to clean minor wounds, I am not a vet, and I would not risk using something sold in a tack shop for a condition such as mites.

You can do more harm than good, and cause the dog unnecessary suffering if it has a bad case of mites in his ears. I personally dont think it is worth the risk.
Agree with Jules. Also different species of animals need different medications, different strengths etc. Whilst I appreciate vets can be expensive, if you want to keep animals then you have to take this into account.

Pets are for life and over their life time they will cost you a fortune. If people are not prepared for this then don't keep animals.
That was not directed at you Mirela. You obviously are doing the best for Leila.
145 is a total rip off. the guy is a jumped up idiot who prescribes what ever he can think of to get money. if i saw him dying in a alleyway dying of hypothermia.... i wouldnt let him keep warm off the steam of my p1ss.

never go to him again mirela!
