Can you tell me if you are on the housing list in redbridge and on benefits but find a flat suitable in another borough, would the dss still pay rent for you or does the property have to be in your borough? Really need a reply urgently if possible. Thanks.

I don't know the full answer, but the DSS has been the DWP for many years and they don't pay anyone's rent.

Housing Benefit and Council Tax benefits are paid by the Local Authority in which you live, if you are entitled.
just to clarify, one Local Authority will not pay Housing Benefit if you live in another Local Authority area, unless they have housed you themselves under some emergency regulations.
