Hi, I've been getting my hair highlighted for about 7 years now. The last 3 times I got it done though, the hairdresser put a blonde dye all over my head. It gives great coverage and means I spend half the time in the hairdressers! However, sometimes I find that it makes my hair look a little bit brassy? As in, a little bit orangey/gold at the roots? I don't like that AT ALL!! I'd much prefer a cooler shade of blonde rather than a golden hue. Basically my ideal hair colour would be that of Katie in Emmerdale?! Does anyone have any advice as to what I should ask the hairdresser so as to get that colour? Thanks

It sounds like they need to use a stronger bleach.
The best thing would be to tell them that your hair tends to go orangey with the weaker bleaches and could they use a much stronger concentration as you want light blonde.
Do you mean platinum....dont watch Emmerdale. A stronger peroxide can burn scalp if not applied with utmost care, professionally....it is only thus available to salons.

Platinum processed hair needs constant conditioning to stop it snapping.

While you're pleased with overall color, will you be pleased when roots show (1 month) and need repeat of process......your choice!

Thanks Daffy. The thing is though that I don't want it looking "white" either? Like as if it's been bleached to death and really cheap looking. I think that silvery blonde is lovely. Are you sure that this kind colour would be achieved through using a stronger bleach? Thanks

My roots don't normally show for about 5-6 weeks so it's fine. Also, getting an all-over colour only takes 40mins as opposed to 2hours for highlights! Plus it's only 40!
Headless, go to a reputable hairdresser. Explain exactly what's happening, they should know how to get the result you want. Don't they have colour charts too? xxx
Terambulan, I like the way you sneaked in the advice not to watch Emmerdale!

I gather you don`t like it as well.
Does the salon you use have a dedicated colourist? If so then ask to speak to whoever it is,book a consultation with the person and discuss your needs. If they do not have a colourist then try changing salons to one that does.
Not saying others shouldn't watch Emmerdale....it's just never absorbed me but am an Eastender fan, though can't remember all characters names else would give some 'hot news'.
A good tip from my hairdresser to get rid of brassy tones is to use the Swaroski shampoo for grey hair.

Its very blue, and very cheap, about 2.00-3.00. Most chemists stock it. You need to leave it on for about five minutes but you will see a difference.
I use it once a week and my highlights stay a nice white colour.

Have some bleached highlights and have some darker brown tinted lowlights blended in between. This makes the hair look more natural. Make sure the shampooist doesn't wash the dark brown tint into the bleached hair though ... it will make the whole head go dark. When shampooing the tint off, either cover the bleach with foil or if not being bleached, or cover the bleached hair with plenty of condition to protect it. Wash out the bleach after the darker tint. It's quite nice to have a darker fringer for a warmer effect and darker hair underneath so the blonde layers show out.
hiya im a hairdresser
u need to ask for full head foils of at least 2 different cool blondes and maybe a darker one as well.
then as suggested use a 'silver' shampoo, gets rid of brassiness.
youl be getting the brassiness on a ful head of blonde as a strong bleach cannot be used on the scalpp so she must be using just a highlift tint which doesnt lift as much as bleach.
