that even though I would consider myself quite slim (size 10) I realised in Miss Selfridge at the weekend that I am closer to the biggest size (14) than the smallest size (4).

Is this really wrong? Or should I lose some weight? I don't think I'm fat but when I realised I was 3 sizes off the smallest it made me feel depressed, especially as I am quite short as well!

How bad does a taller lady who is size 14 which I don't even think is that big feel?

Your thoughts please!

dotovaposted - that was exactly what I was looking for.... oh well!

I've just re-read my question and I don't think I explained myself. When I said I was depressed about being 3 sizes off the smallest, what I meant was I consider myself slim / normal, and it depressed me that there are so much smaller sizes out there - I would consider anyone fitting into these clothes possible quite under weight. (I'm not depressed that I'm not a size 4 - I don't want to be a smaller size).
Oh aye- forgot the chair bit.....

Is it reinforced? Will it take my weight?

Doc- as much as i'd occasionaly converse with you here, you're he last person i'd go anywhere with. I'd be lucky to leave the premises with all my limbs still attached to me- especially if you are as loud and as nasty with your bigotted views in public.
Im no skinny either but I would not suit being small, I am big and strong, I like being big and strong, okay Im about 5'4 but I am sturdy. I have been very thin and I remember being miserable and constanlty cold.

dress size is a guide, okay so your close to a size 14, do you regard size 14 as very large then? Im 33...yes Im close to 35 and dare I say it 40...so what!

No I don't think size 14 is large - if I was a few inches taller then I imagine I would be a size 14 if I was the same size proportionately. I just think that shops are stupid if they don't cater for anyone bigger than a 14!

The fact that 14 isn't big but that is the last size they go up to is kind of my point!
I know what you mean about the dress size thing, I think it was the size factor that maybe led to you not getting the answers you asked for.

As someone who is nowhere near as slim as I was and despite deciding that there is more to life than worrying about what I weight or what dress size I fit into. It does rile me a bit though seeing people who are a perfectly normal shape thinking they are fat.

I tend to ignore sizes in shops these days and just go for something that fits and is comfortable and pick the right kind of clothes for my body shape as I have a large chest and "child bearing hips" as my mother would call them.

At the end of the day it's just a number on a label, it it fits, feels comfortable and looks nice then that's what should matter.
oh I see what your saying emu, do you mean the shops that label size 14 as "x large" ..well yes I think they are aiming at a certain type of woman (well girl I suppose)

I suppose they are effectively losing out on 50% of sales, they may wake up and smell the java eventually, a lot of designer clothes stores have gone to the wall (red or dead ect..)

jen, I think you look lovely
