My daughter works in one -apologies to my Chinese friends here but this is a call she got yesterday.

Mr and Mrs Chung wanted to pay a policy -simple..except they started passing the phone back and forth so she didnt know who she was trying to talk to.

Eventually -20mins later -seriously she got to the card -aaah the card.By this time the office knew she was on a hiding to nothing lol

J (daugter) -slowly -what is the long number on your card.

Customer -What you mean the wong numbe?????????????

J -no the l o n g number??

Customer -What you mean wong number -we no have wong number you have (irate)

J -no the number on your card (hand in air in despair) -I of course have condensed this part as that took another 20 mins.

J -OK -take this number as this is your receipt -another 20 mins trying to explain that was the receipt number as Mrs Chung is sayin 'I need receipt'.She did eventually at J's insistence write the number down and then J said thats your receipt -bye lol

Life in a day of a call centre worker -I still PMSL whe she told me and it made her day.

Any experiences peeps lol

Drisgirl,

does your daughter have a strong accent?? because Chinese ppl do struggle to understand accents such as

1.Scottish
2: scousers
3: brummie
4:indian origin accents.

my parents struggle with them.
and welsh. its not their fault if they struggle to understand.

i struggled for 3 years in Liverpool understanding scousers.. and i British Born!
On many occasions I've answered the phone at work and people have asked "is that Sid" and I've had to say "do I sound like a man"! Sid is a guy I work with.
my friend was teaching at IT class. he talked them through the stages and a woman called out that she was stuck. he called back, "has the window opened?" and she said, "oh sorry!" ....... and got up and closed the window!

I usually get that in reverse, by getting (and I am not being racist) the Indian or Eastern eurpoean.

Sorry call centres, but when we ring up, even if we are not paying for the call, we want to talk to people who understand us and more importantly who we can understand.
