hi all i have to file my tax form before october 31st, thing is its for april 07 to april 08 but i only worked as a self employed painter from the april to the november? is it easier to do it online? i really dont know what im doing can anyone give me some advice please?

If you are not used to doing it, it is probably easier to do it on paper. Phone your tax office on the 0845 number and ask for the necessary forms.
It will come with an explanatory booklet that explains what goes in each of the boxes.
You will have to complete the form covering your self-employed earnings and any PAYE earnings you did from November onwards - for which presumably you received a P60 at April 08.
HMRC will work out how much tax you owe, which has to be paid before the end of Jan09.
unless your trying to save money, pop into a local accountant and ask a few questoins, they would be happy for your business and would answer any questions you have.

Thats what I did.

And you would only pay from the time you've worked.
