I think the fibre is probably binding you up, dont drink too much water (if you feel you are forcing it down then its too much) my partner lost a stone in weight when he stopped drinking so much water.

try eating foods that encourage looser bowels like pears, lay off the bran and try just eating a normal cereal.
Hi I have this problem. My doctor told me between 3 times a day and 3 times a week is normal. I struggle to go once a week sometimes, no matter what I eat and drink., a whole tin of prunes does nothing!. I was given something from Docs called Movicol and it still didn't shift. I think it's all down to the individual to be honest so unless your in pain and think it could be a blockage I would go to your doctors.
Colonic irrigation...

lucky - Have you had any xrays or investigative tests?
movicol is actually a very good medicine, it works most of the time, did you take the right amount?
Your bowel routine is quite normal.
I get like this every so often, the best thing I can suggest is a medicine called lactulose, it is now available over the counter, where as it never used to be...I was feeling a bit uncomfortable the other night so took 20ml of that, by morning I was fine...I highly recommend it!

Also you could try linseed from the health shop, just sprinly over your cereal...good luck!
A kebab the night before seems to work for half of england come saturday/sunday morning! HAHAHA! seriously though, have daily a large spoon of olive oil,and fish oil and you should be ok! if not add prune juice or castor oil and everything should be rosy!(along with fruit and veg!)
You need a long term solution rather than taking something once or twice. Excercise is good for getting your body moving . And eating fruit rather than lots of bran regularly should also help.
Do you eat meat? I gave up meat several years ago & I very rarely have this problem now. It was explaned to me that meat stays in the gut a long time, hence why it's satisfying to eat. This can slow up digestion for some people. I agree with the comments about too much fibre as unless you do drink lots of water it can go hard in the bowel & have the opposite effect, although porrige is good. Plenty of fruit & veg, several glasses of water a day, lay off the over processed foods. Take up walking to get things moving, 20 mins a day should help.

Good luck!
I find baked beans help me go.
Are you sure there is no obstruction in your gut. I knew someone who had swollen diverticuli which prevented the passage of products into the anus. A simple sigmoidscopy (camera) up through your anus into the lower bowel would check for this.
I can go 5-7 times each day. I wish i had your problem
I used to suffer with constipation and ibs, I went to see a therapist who recommended, having food allergy tests which I did the York Test and also colonic irrigation, and before I am attacked with its dangerous, I assure you after much research and asking my local GP have had several and now have a healthy bowel, regular toilet habits and the weight fell off, I leave the decision to you, good luck

thanks for ur answers .......i must say i try not to eat meat especially beef as i have heard it does lie in the bowel 4 yrs...i think i will lay off the bran flakes everynite too...also i will consider going for colonic irrigation very soon and i will keep u informed how i feel that colonic irragation has worked or hasnt worked for me....
Luckyman, best of luck x
I sympathise. My doctor also told me not to worry, even when I almost crawled into the surgery once, having not opened my bowels for 5 weeks!!! He said it was possible to go a lot longer than that!!! I was unable to go out to work; I felt like there was a concrete tyre round my waist! I tried Morvical, which only gave me secondary diarrhoea (liguid stuff finding its way out round the hard stuff!) I ate tin after tin of horrible prunes and all sorts of other things, to no avail. Eventually, it was good old Senna that actually shifted it. I find now that if I eat even a little bit of chocolate, I get bunged up again and if I eat an apple each day, everything is great!
My doctor gives me Docusate, it can be got over the counter called Dulco-ease. Take 4-6 capsules a day for a few days and it works better than lactulose. Has mad my life much better, also if you are really constaipated tale a couple of dulxolax tablets at night as well - my doctor also gave me those and this routine seems to work well
