Can anyone recommend a good genealogy website.

Try starting with Cindy's List - which is a gateway to hundreds of other genealogical sites.  Most useful in the UK are Family Search (the Mormon website); Ancestry.com (but you have to subscribe to some of the information) and the 1901 census site.  Also, try GENUKI, which will give you information and links to specific parts of the UK.

A really good site is  1837 ONLINE, it gives out birth-marriage-death right up to 2002 England-Wales.
