I am watching "Singing in the Rain" and have taped a few other Gene Kelly movies after seeing a biography show about him. I love these old movies, I kow they can be "As corny as Kansas in August", but the dancing is amazing and those songs always make me wish things were as simple as the movies made it seem.

I love them too EngTeach!
The romance, the luxury sets ect.. ect..
I too love these films, particularly Gene Kelly's and also the Rodgers & Hammerstein ones. When I was a child (many years ago) "Singing in the Rain" was coming to our local cinema. On the day I was supposed to be going, I lost my mum's purse while going on an errand and knew I wouldn't be allowed to go to the cinema. However, a lady found the purse and when I went to the Police Office to enquire about it, they had it there. I loved the film and was forever grateful to the kind lady who ensured I got to see it.

Oh fili, what a sweet memory. Years ago before cable TV these movies were always on on saturday and Sunday afternoons. My mom always watched them and would play the soundtracks while cleaning the house. I was the only 6 year old who knew the score from Sound of Music and Camelot, etc. My niece also loves musicals and I take her to children's shows all the time. My mother was very happy about this. I guess I have an emotional attachment to them as well as truly liking them.
Not just the musicals Eng/ fili,
what about all those big films/names, Mickey Rooney, James Cagney, Audrey Hepburn, Doris Day, Elizebeth Taylor!!! xxx

My all time favorite movie is Holiday Inn, with White Christmas being a close second.

Trivia: The song White Christmas debuted in Holiday Inn, not the WC movie as some would suspect.

It is so hard to choose. Not to sound old, but.....They just don't make movies like that anymore!

Well, my afternoon with Gene Kelly is over and I must go run errands... Great to see some others with like minds. My sister would rather die than sit through a black and White or musical. LOL
