i have recently bought a smoker and after catching alot of mackerel and smoking them have made rather alot of smoked mackerel pate...gorgeous! But I am wondering how long they will last in the fridge before they have to be eaten. I thought one way to find out would be to keep eating daily until one day I get sick ,but if anyone can tell me without me using this method it would be apreciated!!

Sounds wonderful thumberlina,i know that if you put a layer of clarified butter over top of the ramekins or container, it preserves it for quite a while in the fridge, sorry dont know the shelflife as such but at least a few weeks i would think!!!
i'd have a go at freezing it. you can freeze fish, and you can freeze pate, so i would imagine it woul be fine. that's what i would do with it myself.
Freeze it ,it might seperate but give it
a good stir ,it will still taste ok ..I love
mackerel and used to do alot of beach
casting ..out of the sea and in the pan ..
lovely stuff ...enjoy ...
