Why do people need to know??!!

Because it identifies a specific bank and a specific branch, an essential tool for payments processing, such as salaries, direct debits, pensions, standing orders and BACS queries. If you held back this information, there is no guarantee you�d get your money.

Well yes I can see what you mean. Incidentally that answer is wrong, its Halifax Bank of Scotland now. But you could pretty much type the code into google and get your answer.
