My voice has gone!

I have been suffering with a sore throat for about a month and have been given various pills (penicellin, anti-biotics etc) to sort it out. The symptoms did go away, but two days ago my voice started going and my throat hurt again. Now my voice has gone completely (apart from a whisper) and my throat is fine?!?

I can also feel a weird lump thing in my throat/gullet that the doctor said was 'catarrh' and gave me some menthol stuff to inhale but it didn't shift it.

Has anyone had anything like this before? i've read that it could be laryingitis, but i'm terrified that it's cancer. I'm 24, and got another appointment for the Docs tomorrow but I'm really worried??

Many thanks in advance x

Aged 24, feeling of lump in throat and loss of voice, extremely UNLIKELY to be cancer. As your GP says, the lump that you felt in your throat could well be catarrh, but one would have to know more about you. Do you smoke, what is your occupation, do you work in noisy surroundings etc. Your voice has only disappeared for 2days so no need to panic and the diagnosis of laryngitis does seem sustainable at the present time. Don't worry.

thank you! :)

i don't smoke at all, but do drink alcohol and i work in a call centre. i know that these are causes of this, and i'm totally over reacting, but it's really annoying me now!!

i'm just going to rest my voice and drink lots of water. At least my other half is getting some peace and quiet i suppose!!
You are doing the right thing bexappeal, but remember it could take 3weekd for your voice to return and even longer for the feeling of a lump in your throat to diappear. Keep in touch.

Update:

Hi, saw my GP this morning, and he perscribed me some Amoxicillin, a stronger Penicillin. Didn't mention the cause of this though.

Either way, i hope it works!
