Having a slow day here at work, so I thought I'd check how my BMI is now that I've lost a bit of weight. Then it occured to me to check my WHR, too, and I'm far happier with that! :) Thought this was interesting...

According to the above link, which talks about WHR (Waist to Hip Ratio), if people were to work out whether their health was at risk with this instead of their BMI (Body Mass Index), the number of those at risk would increase threefold! It all depends on where you carry your weight on your body.

Are you healthier according to your BMI or WHR?

Even you're not that stupid, ruge! ;)

The calculators work it out for you. If your BMI is between 18 and 25 you're a healthy weight. Your WHR shouldn't be over 0.9 for a man. Your WHR is based on how much weight your carry around your middle where it is most dangerous.
my WHR is 0.968 so just over and my BMI says im obese. oh well

Hello, Matrix! :)

That's just it! Your WHR is apparently more important and you're healthy according to that. :)
after searching high & low for my tape measure i was curious to find this out only to find i'm right along the dotted line...
WOO HOO!!

now what about the spare tyre i'm carrying???
how odd.
My BMI 3 months after having baby is 25.18 and yet before i was pregnant at almost a stone lighter it was once calculated at 28!

My BMI is 21.5 - IDEAL

Havent got a clue about my measurements though!
Thank you SO much for this thread - I feel so much better now as I am just on the line on both, so not over. YYYIIIPPPPPPEEEEEE!!!!!
Well my BMI makes me feel like a tub of lard even though it is 0.5 over the suggested lower limit, and my WHR is 0.895 which is apparently just below a blood boiling heart wrenching gut wrenching keel over 0.90.

I can never look in the mirror again sob
yipee! Although my BMI is very high (ahem), my waist to hip ratio is bang on 0.85! I think I love you, whiskey! lol
