hi what degree did she get? I got a 2.2 and I have a decent graduate job. There is someone who got a 3rd class degree here. Its not the end of the world you know. what degree though?

history of modern art film and design. She has always wanted to be a museum curator.
whose fault is it that she got an unwelcoming grade? tell her to study harder or do better next time.
She could consult the Careers Advisory Service at her University. The Graduate Employability Officer will discuss all her options and help her find her future career. I hope she finds what she wants.

Thank you moonshadow she will get on to them tomorrow. Thank you lajohn unfortunately you only get one chance at your degree, unlike many she did not spend the last 3 years partying.
Why does she think a 2:2 is bad! It's not!

She HAS a degree now, thats fab!

Tell her not to worry and ask for advice form careers, they will probably reassure her!

Tell her well done x
Hi

Congrats to your daughter.

A 2:2 is not bad... its a good average mark. !!!

Has she got any work experience under her belt??

She needs to make sure her CV is full of useful experience.

local museums... she needs to get some voluntary summer work.. the local library as well!!!!

Good luck

A 'desmond' tutu : ) never did me any harm! BUT being a museum curator......absolutely p-poor pay, competition with the landed gentry who don't need to be paid - been there, done that, not going back. I think your daughter should follow her dream but never be afraid to change direction. The simple fact is that so many are competing for the same jobs that she might end up disappointed anyway.
I always thought a good presentation at an interview is far superior to paper qualifications and any degree should get you a foot in the door. First class honours usually go down well at research establishments.
I have to agree with SP1214. If your daughter presents herself well at any interview, and shows enthusiasm, then most employers accept that for attaining ANY degree level, the person has to have some acumen, so it probably wouldn't go against her.
I do hope that you tell your daughter that she's done well, despite her own disappointment, because giving support to your children is very important. Also, not getting the level she was hoping for, isn't the end of the world. She should still be able to find a decent job. Good luck to her.
I got a Desmond, as well.

Nothing wrong with that.

how can she be devastated? at the end of the day, she got the mark she deserved. it will limit her in some choices (e.g. further study or trainee graduate programmes) which often require a 2:1 or above, but she will have to live with that. she can either sulk about it and blame everybody and everything else or she can dust herself down and keep trying. i know which one i'd do...

Thank you everyone. Of course 've told her she has done well and I am proud of her. She has slept on it and is feeling better today. Once again thank you for the advice.
Tell her not to panic! I have a 2:2 In Law and Criminology. Im off soon to study for my LPC and hopefully this time next year I hope to be a trainee solicitor. I wont lie when I got my resultd I was crying so much as I was so dissapointed. But I just have to except that I tried and I am the only person in my family to have ever gone to university to get a degree! At least she didnt fail. I saw on my results day at least three that had totally failed their degree, so she should be proud that she has come sofar! My fiancees brother-in-law, sister, father and step mother have all obtained 2:2. And their occupations include, government scientist, contract lawyer, civil engineer and business consultant. A degree is what you make of it. She should be proud!
It's not the qualification which counts, it's what people do with it that matters. I know people with Firsts who have not benefitted from it and people with Thirds who have. It's a question of being positive about it.
My husband got a 2:2 and currently earns well over 100K - his brother got a 1st from Oxford and fixes cars part-time.... Its not just about success or what you earn but also about what you enjoy doing and being happy.
