Hi, i am recording a cd which i have mixed myself, and was wondering if it would be possible to split the cd into tracks just like a normal music cd. I think this would be much better than a cd where all the mix is just one track where songs can't be skipped when listening to it, but instead people have to search through it. I think this could put some people off listening to the cd.

So does anybody know how to edit either wav or mp3 files so they can be split up into several tracks and which program i should use to do so? Thanks, Gray.

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ You will need to dl the (free) plug-in from elsewhere to edit mp3 files, but Audacity is free and quite a good solution.
the best sound editer i know is roxio6,it works 2 ways, first it auto detcts silence[no good 2 u] but second u drop yor own track markers in,very easy 2 use, then burn 2 cd

If you have already recorded your mix and simply want to put 'track' marks on your recording, CD Wave is an excellent program.

It's a small program and simple to use.  Although it says it is shareware, you do not have to buy it to keep using it. It only works on WAV files, but you can convert them to mp3 afterwards.

You can download it here.

Once you have 'split' your long recording.  CD WAVE, saves the sections as seperate files.  Then all you have to do is burn them to disc, making sure the "Disc-at-Once" option is selected on your burning software.  This prevents 2-second gaps being inserted between each track.

Good luck.

I've never tried but apparently even Nero can do this for you. It can (reportedly) take one long wav file & burn it to a CD with 10 tracks which you can skip backwards and forwards between.

Thats great help people thanks.

Does anybody know how to join mp3s or wavs together with no gap in between, so that they become one single file?

Anglo, you will need a sound editing program such as audacity
(see above link) or Adobe Audition (previously known as Cool Edit).
