Can anyone explain why Mbeki keeps suppoprting Mugabe when it must be doing huge damage to South Africa? South Africa particularly, but all the neighbours together could solve this if they wanted to, can they not see and utter dismanltling of civilisation before their eyes?

I want to punish the poor, please Gromit, They are suffering as it is, something must be done all you are doing is slating any suggestion, please tell me the solution, because all you have done so far is rubbish what everybody else says. I will leave it now because all it will end up in is an argument and not a debate.

Ray, Gromit is 'the king of rubbishing answers. ' along with several other 'right' fighters. ('Right' as in "I am always right!") Part of the reason that my contribution to AB is becoming less and less, unfortunately.

I think Mbeki is worried about the flood of refugees entering S.A. if there was a civil war. As we know refugees always flee to a safer country where they think it supports them. So the exodus of anti-Mugabe followers will flood into S.A. and Mugabe may give them a helping hand to get out to bolster his own position in Zimbabwe. And S.A. does not want them!
Hi Le Chat, so many on here like that now, can't be bothered with it, feel like you do, shame really but thats life eh. hope you don't leave alltogether though, always good to see your posts.

Hi Cleverone, hope your ok, on me way over to SA now, if only, take it easy and see you on the other side soon, with all the proper loonies.

The lefties always support the bad guys, that's Gromit all over.
R1: The lefties always support the bad guys, that's Gromit all over.

That's a little bit different to what Gromit actually wrote:

It is up to Zimbabwians to put the rightful man/party in power. It is frustrating to watch this miserable story pan out, but South African, Britain or the US should not wade in and sort it out.

If Mugabe is deposed by SA, UK or US actions, then he will vindicated because he has blamed them for everything. Outside meddling will catapult him from zero to hero at a stroke, and I am sure you do not want that.

See if you can spot the difference?
Given that there seems to have been an unprovoked and irrelevant pop at Gromit, it seems reasonable and far to comment on this.

Le Chat "my contribution to AB is becoming less and less, unfortunately ". Unfortunate for whom? As your contribution to this thread appears only to post an extraneous and unconnected snide comment, if you post less, this can only be a blessing.

R1Geezer."The lefties always support the bad guys, that's Gromit all over". Can you actually back up that ridiculous assertion with any evidence, or is it as usual a biased, embittered and unsupported ipse dixit.

Yes I can, there are countless posts on here by Gromit with anti western undertones, pretty much any question he asks has a snide anti western feel about it. All things being equal, lefties including Gromit alway find a way to blame US/UK or the set in general. If the search on this site was any good I'd find them for you.
There is a big difference between question US / UK tactics or policies and being anti Western.

Sorry R1, but you appear to be following the Bushism of You're either with us or against us

Clearly, Gromit (and plenty of others on here, though not nearly enough) realise that this is not true.

Sadly, you are one of the people who accuse Gromit of saying things which he has not said. When you are accused of this, you then come out with "yes, but he said something similar before".

FACT - he has said nothing in this post in defence of Mugabe despite your accusation. Why not do the decent thing and apologise?
Ruby - 'Unfortunately ' for me, as I have enjoyed AB on the whole since 2004.
You sound like a really unpleasant person, by the way.
Question Author
Gromit never says these things directly it's all done in undertones and inflexions, very subtle. However in this case he hasn't defended Mugabe, I was was really addressing the more general point when I said the above.

Ask and you shall receive:

Former South African leader Nelson Mandela has added his voice to the growing international condemnation of the political violence in Zimbabwe.

In his first public comments about the crisis, he noted "the tragic failure of leadership" of President Robert Mugabe.
