They can go two ways Lakitu, often they help mum relax and get some rest as things can slow down but with some, like me, it can have the opposite effect and speed things up. I had one with my first baby. It was administered around lunchtime and I was told to rest and nothing would happen til tea time/early evening. baby was born at 2:19pm!
She took it so that she could get some rest, poor girl

awww. how frustrating it must be to just stay at same dilation.

The hormone usually means an epidural is advised, they can then regulate the contractions better.
She hasn't slept since 3am yesterday so I'm not surprised she's knackered.

My brother was saying this morning that he's tired, I just told him to get used to it, he'll be tired for the next 2 years LOL
