If a mosquito is is recognised to be such a pain in the backside and no obvious benefits to mankind what points would we have to consider before sanctioning its extinction from this planet. Would the food chain be affected markedly. what species depend on the mosquito or its larvae as a food source? Would the benefits outweigh the possible risks.

Birds eat mosquitos and bigger birds eat sm smaller birds, some birds eat neqtar from flowers and trees and help them spread their seeds, It is the circle of life
Fish and bats also eat mosquitos.  I seriously doubt that we could completely kill off the mosquitos anyway.
There are also insects that eat the larvae of the mosquito.
