Ethel, you are right, but have you trawled some of the other sites recently? They aint your internet savvy users. Unless I am wrong, some have real problems they are trying to find answers for. I know there are debates about personal responsibility etc but any system also has to take responsibility for their policies
Dot must have a different Google to mine - dot.hawkes returns 3,290 hits on mine.

:)
Rosetta - this is not a closed shop.

Anybody can access this site without logging in, joining, providing proof of id... It is a public site. It is impossibe for a site like this to be any different, unless people register with a credit or debit card to gain access.

And then it would be a totally different place to what it is now.

Think of it as somebody writing to an agony aunt in a newspaper or magazine - they know if they want an answer the question will be published and read by anyone.

It is exactly the same. I really cannot believe that many users on this site do not realise it is open to the public.

And really, google is irrelavent. If I didn't use this site I wouldn't be able to google dot.hawkes or terambulan - it would be totally meaningless to me.
The point I am trying to make (badly) is that posts on this site may be accessable elsewhere. I dont think this is clear.

Well, there it is...some people are stupidly honest and trustworthy. They do register with their personal info else they wouldn't get the emails.

Niaivity is delicious! A lot to be learned! Much nicer than being mistrustful. In which case I'd be too scared to leave home.

Rosetta - I do understand your point about posts being accessed from elsewhere - such as google.

But unless you know the anonymous id then it doesn't really matter. And if you do know the id,then you know about AnswerBank.

If the posts weren't available on Google nobody would ever find the site. I found it when Googling for help with a computer problem.
I will continue this thread, others permitting, tomorrow. I'M knackered now. Nite nite
Terambulan - you can get anonymous emails using gmail, hotmail, yahoo.....they dont ask for proof of id either.
