In divorce proceedings, do the legal costs of both parties get taken into consideration when dividing the marital 'pot'? I have come into a small amount of money and was considering paying my legal expenses prior to the final court case. Will this benefit me in the long run or not? Also, I made a financial proposal in the early stages of divorce which my partner refused. If the courts decide to award me the same amount, will my partner have to pay my legal costs?

It is my understanding that each party is responsible for their own legal costs and morally any change in circumstances after financial disclosure should be immaterial though I would recommend getting legal advice
