Digit Al Advert

This is the one with the wee alien guy travelling in the van, it's got the Neilsen track 'everybody's talking' on it. But, my question is this; near the start when they're driving in the van and they pass a family driving their car and I think the alien dude waves at the kids (not sure), then the guy in the van turns round and smacks him on the head!! Why? Can't see the relevance of this to the advert. Anyone have any ideas?
